the 'kalau ada dslr, gambar sure cun' myth

ok, for starts, from what i gathered from most of the blogs i stalk, people seem to generalize on the idea that 'to get an awesome picture, i have to get a dslr!'. ok, to be honest people, that's not necessarily the case.

i've seen many awesome pictures taken using point-and-shoots and even camera phones. (i linked both the Nikon Coolpix P1 and SE K750i coz those were what i have tried to use before). well, yeah, i am using a dslr now, because yes, the pictures seem to have a certain professional look to it in the end, but if you can't afford to buy one just yet, you can still squeeze the potential out from your compact. but if you're looking to invest in a new camera and think that you need to improve on your talent first before getting a dslr, i'd say, just get that dslr. because it's now or never, man. there are beginners dslr that wont break the bank - such as the Nikon D40, or Sony Alpha.

what you need to have though, is The Art of Seeing, and some really amazing post-production photo editting software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom - or if those scare you, you can try to download something as simple as Picasa, or Photoscape (i'm not sure what else is out there, but i bet there are plenty more), and then start exploring. for me, i use mainly Photoshop CS3 and CS4, because that's what i have here in the office. so you're gonna get a lot of photoediting ideas using Photoshop from me in here later.

anyway, just to prove a point that you don't need a dslr to get nice photos, here are some of the photos i've taken using my point-and-shoot Nikon Coolpix P1 before i lost it and got me a dslr :
